We’re charged up (pun intended) to announce the launch of our Energy & Sustainability Department! This isn’t just another department—this is where bright ideas and green dreams come to life.
Imagine a South Africa where the lights never flicker, the air is as fresh as a morning breeze, and our wallets thank us for choosing energy that’s clean, green, and oh-so-sustainable. Sounds dreamy, right? Well, buckle up—at Mekan we are doing our bit to make it real through an upskilling initiative which is to continue in the future.

Where careers bloom, skills grow, and interns become legends.
Let’s talk about something close to our hearts—growth and opportunity. Whether it’s through continued development for our amazing employees or bringing fresh talent into the fold with intern programs, we’re all about building for the future.
The world doesn’t stand still, and neither do we! Investing in our team’s skills and knowledge is the secret sauce to staying ahead of the game (and making work more fun, of course). From new technologies to leadership opportunities, there’s always something exciting to learn.
At the end of the day, it’s all about one thing: teamwork. Whether levelling up or helping guide the next generation, we keep growing, learning, and having fun along the way.
Here’s to a brighter future—one intern and one development day at a time!
ECSA statistics show that nationally only 10% of engineers within companies are professionally registered whilst at Mekan this number is at 40%. Additionally 85% of our senior engineers are registered professionals.
Here are some of our employees that obtained registration within the past year.
Mekan has a rich history of people development and empowerment through our internship program. We are very proud of our interns and proud to be their guide on the road to professional registration
Here are some of our engineering candidates for 2024

Renewable energy is a critical component of South Africa’s energy future, offering the country the potential for a more sustainable, diversified, and secure energy mix. South Africa has made significant progress in expanding its renewable energy capacity, particularly in wind and solar energy, driven by supportive policies like the REIPPPP. While there are challenges, such as grid infrastructure limitations and Eskom’s financial struggles, opportunities for growth remain, particularly in off-grid solutions, hydrogen energy, and private sector participation.
By continuing to invest in renewable energy technologies, grid modernization, and energy efficiency, South Africa can achieve its energy transition goals and play a significant role in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. At Mekan we have embarked on a training initiative this past year to build our skills in this arena and provide a wider range of services to our clients. The training attended ranges from qualifications for commercial solar PV design to Certified Renewable Energy Professionals.
Mekan Group, through their corporate initiative, ventured into a social project with SPLFA. After a rigorous selection among many similar requests, SPLFA represented their Vision 2025 Diski 4 Change concept, which resonated and coincided very well with MEKAN’s long-term vision on sustainable brand value partnership initiative. Mekan and SPLFA’s partnership dates back to 2015 and continues to this day.
Among the good stories to share out of this partnership. It is the jewels that has to have been unearthed and developed through our program with SPLFA.

Ever wondered what happens when cutting-edge tech meets building design? Enter Scan-to-BIM, the superhero of the architecture and construction world!
Think of Scan-to-BIM as giving our buildings a digital makeover. We use 3D laser scanners (the fancy kind that looks like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie ) to capture every nook and cranny of a structure. Then, voila! We turn that data into a detailed, digital 3D model of the building.
Why Should we Care?
Because it’s about to make our work smarter, faster, and cooler:

Pinpoint Accuracy
No more guesswork – we capture the real deal!

Time-Saving Wizardry
Skip the hours of manual measuring and sketching

Cost-Effective Magic
Less rework = more budget for coffee (or other important stuff)

Collaboration Goals
Everyone works from the same awesome digital page
We are very proud of the Mekan Team and what they have accomplished in the past year. The number of appointments received is a testament to the quality of the service being provided by our team. Here’s the scoop on what we’ve been up to in some of our construction projects.
From blueprints to breaking ground, it’s been an exciting ride, and we can’t wait to share the details!
Middelburg, Gauteng
The Radisson Hotel Middelburg with the adjacent conference centre was started in 2021 and is due for completion in 2024. Mekan (Alberton) was appointed to provide electrical engineering services under the capable leadership of Boitelo Molapo.
The project comprises a 150 key hotel and a 2500 seat conference center which doubles as a 1500-person banquet hall.

Laboratory upgrade C007
The Kimberley office, led by Mark Setaro as the project leader, has been assisting SPU with upgrading various laboratories. The current C007 laboratory is undergoing renovations to meet BSL2 Laboratory Classification standards. While the project’s scope was extended a few months ago, it is scheduled for completion on 14 December 2024.

We extend our warm congratulations to the Northern Cape Department of Health on the successful inauguration of the Kuruman Forensic Mortuary. This significant facility was officially opened by MEC Mr. Maruping Lekwene on 7th May 2024.
Mekan Group proudly served as the principal agent for this project. We provided a comprehensive range of services including Mechanical, Electrical & Civil, and Structural Services. We take pride in delivering excellence to our clients and witnessing the successful completion of our projects.
We are honoured to have played a part in this important initiative and look forward to continuing our commitment to service and quality in future endeavours.
The Helen Joseph Forensic Pathology Facility project entails the development of the new M6 Academic Pathology Mortuary to replace the existing facility situated in Hillbrow. The original plan was to refurbish and rehabilitate the facility that is situated in Hillbrow, but after an assessment it was decided to rather build a new one and incorporate a head office, as well as a basement parking for the existing nurses’ college at Helen Joseph Hospital.
The new Facility will be the main centre for pathology services in the city and in addition to the laboratories themselves and the related office space, the building also includes educational facilities as training is an important element of the facility’s role. The project incorporates green initiatives inclusive of roof insulation, glazing, LED light fittings, heat pumps for water heating, rainwater harvesting, indigenous landscaping and photovoltaic panels.
